The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which will start from Akshardham in Delhi, was supposed to open the first section of the access-controlled Delhi-Dehradun Expressway by the end of December. to Khekra Baghpat. As it goes through Delhi, it will go through Geeta Colony, Shastri Park, Khajuri, Trans Delhi Signature City, Mandola Vihar in Ghaziabad, and Khekra in Bagpat.
The project was supposed to be finished by June 2024, but the new date was December 2024. The project was delayed because of limits on the GRAP system in Delhi because of pollution. Phase 1 of the project, which is 36.60 km long, is 90–95% finished. It includes the carriageways and infrastructure, and work is now being done to put up signs, expansion joints, and other infrastructure.
Phase 1 has an elevated stretch that is about 18 km long. Six km of it is in Delhi, from Geeta Colony to Khajuri Khas, and the other 12 km is in Uttar Pradesh, from Police Chowki near Tronica City to Khekra/Mavi village. NHAI is getting ready for the start. As planned, it has a speed limit of 100 km/h for light cars. Typically taking two hours, the trip from Delhi to Baghpat will just take 20 minutes. It is thought that the first part, from Akshardham to Baghpat, will cost Rs 3,200 crore.
At the moment, people going to Dehradun from Delhi take a 250 km path that goes through Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Roorkee, and Haridwar, all of which are very crowded.
There are six animal underpasses on this highway and other features that make it easier for wildlife to move. The highway will help the economy grow along the corridor of Delhi, Dehradun, and Saharanpur. It will also bring more tourists to Uttarakhand.
The Ghaziabad development authority did, however, put forward a plan to connect the Northern Peripheral Road to NH-9 and the Delhi-Dehradun highway at Loni, which is close to Trans Delhi Signature City (Tronica City). It will start on the road to Hapur and go through Meerut, Hindon, Bhopura, and Loni. It is 20 km long. The projected price of this route is 260 crore rupees. Work on the project was supposed to begin in September 2023, but it hasn't begun yet.
